Whowa! We were just talking about why to upgrade to Wordpress 2.5 when 2.6 just squeaked itself out the door. If you’re still using an older version, here’s even more reasons to upgrade to the current version. In this blog, we’ll look at why and how 2.6 ups the ante.
Its understood that each version of Wordpress incorporates the latest security and bug fixes. Even if there were no new features, this alone would be reason to update. However, the Wordpress team has given us some great new features as well. Here are some highlights of the new features.
- Revision History. The biggest new feature in 2.6 is that Wordpress now saves a revision history of each post or page. It is like an “undo” but where you can see what changes you’ve made from the last time you saved.
- Image Caption. If you fill out the image caption field in the image editor, the caption will now automatically appear underneath the image.
- Image Management. The entire interface that appears when you click on the Insert/Edit Image toolbar icon is revamped. And it really, really, really, really, much better.
- Image Galleries. First, you can upload multiple images at one time. Then you can select a collection of images you uploaded and insert them into a post as thumbnails, all nicely laid out in what’s known as a gallery.
Here’s a great video detailing the latest version. I highly reccomend taking 3 minutes to watch this.
Clients subscribed to our maintanance service will recieve this upgrade as part of that service. If you’re not on a maintanance plan, the upgrade is estimated to be about 2-4 hours, depending on your current Wordpress version. Contact us to upgrade today!
